ARCMET aims to secure regular knowledge exchange within archaeometallurgy to foster methodological development and aims, through the focus on the spectrum of application possibilities, the more general integration of archaeometallurgy in archaeological research.
Archaeometallurgy is the metallurgical and natural scientific study of ancient metals with the aim to give a biographical presentation of ancient artefacts and craft processes. Archaeometallurgy is an interdisciplinary discipline that unites archaeology, history, geology, chemistry, physics and material science. Moreover, archaeometallurgy is not restricted to one historical or prehistorical period and is therefore truly transdisciplinary.
Archaeometallurgical research needs methodological exchange and reflection to grow and develop, this community aims to give a platform for this exchange. To allow the members of this community a regular exchange of ideas methods and methodologies we aim within the EAA Community ARCMET to: - create (and monitor) an interactive homepage where the latest research results can be published (online repository) and discussed, methodologies explained and laboratories presented. Such an open forum would also allow transdisciplinary interested scholars an easy entry into the community and would support students in their quest to learn how archaeometallurgy might answer archaeological questions. -present laboratory comparisons and inform ongoing about access possibilities to scientific laboratories.
ARCMET aims through the yearly organisation of session(s) at the annual metting of the EAA the methodological progess and development through open discussions.
The community's dissemination strategy includes social media groups (LinkedIn/Whats App), yearly participation at the EAA annual meeting with a session and the public presentation of articles, laboratories, research methodologies on the community homepage . Community's composition: ARCMET aims for equality according to gender/minority/disability guidelines and seeks members from all levels of education and employment.
