Venue
The main venue of the Annual Meeting is Queen’s University Belfast which was founded by Royal Charter in 1845 during the reign of Queen Victoria. The centrepiece and the enduring symbol of Queen’s University is the original Lanyon building, named after its architect, the renowned Sir Charles Lanyon. The University lies at the heart of the Queen’s Quarter in the leafy suburbs of south Belfast, adjacent to the Botanic Gardens and the Ulster Museum.
The European Archaeological Fair (EAF) will be held in the Whitla Hall, adjacent to the Lanyon Building. The hall was opened in 1949 and is named after Sir William Whitla, a major Queen’s benefactor and distinguished Belfast physician. Each year 1000s of Queen’s students attend graduation ceremonies in the Whitla Hall. The exhibition space will be a central hub for the conference and will include multiple Annual Meeting facilities, including the registration desk and the helpdesk, distribution points of the pre-ordered lunch boxes, and coffee breaks served twice per day. Other attractions to entertain delegates will also be set up near the Whitla Hall but details of these will be available closer to the time of the Meeting.
