Travel to Kiel

By train

Kiel’s central railway station is located in the city centre. From the station, you can take a bus or taxi to the University, or your accomodation (taxi fare to the University is around 8 to 10 Euros). Taxis wait outside the north exit (straight ahead), and buses are outside the west exit (to the left).

By plane

The international Hambug Airport is about 90 km from Kiel. From there, two shuttle services bring you to Kiel in about one hour.

The airport shuttle KIELIUS makes the trip between Hamburg Airport and Kiel up to 19 times daily, taking you to Kiel central station. The KielExx, operating on an hourly basis, brings you right to your accomodation.

Due to the current covid 19 lockdown both shuttle services are temporarily closed until further notice. Also, information is currently only available in German:

Arrival by ferry

Travelling from Norway, Sweden, or Lithuania, you can also reach Kiel by the Baltic Sea ferries which operate on a daily basis. From the cruise terminals – either Norwegenkai, Schwedenkai or Ostuferhafen – which are located in the city centre you can take the bus or a taxi to your destination of choice.
