EAA INAUGURAL MEETING IN LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA

The EAA Inaugural Meeting took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia 22-25 September 1994.

The Meeting was hosted by the University of Ljubljana and the Slovenian Archaeological Society and proved more successful than the Founding Committee or its tireless local Organizing Committee had dared hope, bringing together some six hundred archaeologists from every country in Europe (and also from as far away as Australia and the USA). It was launched with an inspiring lecture by Colin Renfrew (Cambridge University, UK), who had been an enthusiastic supporter of the new association from the very start, and there was a series of outstanding thematic sessions and round tables. At the Annual Business Meeting, the statutes were formally approved by acclamation and the European Association of Archaeologists turned the vision of the founders into a reality.
