Description

The tour not only features key archaeological sites of Roman Pannonia and medieval hubs of religion and military history, but also caters to gourmet tastes: wine tasting on the sunny hillside above Lake Balaton, Roman inspired dinner in the heart of former Savaria colonia and high cuisine in the shadow of a lakeside Renaissance castle.

Approximate schedule

Day 1
  • Departure from Budapest in the morning
  • Guided tour of the Villa Romana, Baláca
  • Lunch at the Márga Bistro (St. Donat Winery)
  • Arrival at Balatonfüred in the afternoon, check-in at the hotel
  • Facultative programmes for the afternoon:
    • Sightseeing tour of Balatonfüred, relax at the lakeshore
    • Guided sightseeing tour of the Tihany Peninsula (Benedictine monastery and Inner Lake)
  • Dinner at the Baricska csárda in Balatonfüred
Day 2
  • Departure to Szombathely, check-in at the hotel in Szombathely
  • Guided tour of the István Járdányi Paulovics Ruin Garden at Szombathely
  • Lunch at the Komló Restaurant (Szombathely)
  • Guided tour of the Iseum Savariense in the afternoon
  • Roman inspired dinner at the Iseum Savariense
Day 3
  • Departure from Balatonfüred in the morning
  • Guided tour of the Camaldolese Hermitage in Majk
  • Lunch at the Platán Restaurant & Café in Tata
  • Visit to the ongoing archaeological excavations in the legionary fortress of Brigetio / Komárom-Szőny and guided tour of the local museum with archaeological collection
  • Return to Budapest in the evening
