This year the International Landscape Forum Stuttgart Region met in Nürtingen. For June 27, Ellen Fetzer, the president of ECLAS organized a Transdisciplinary Round Table Discussion with the title “Landscape!”. The session discussed the Future of the Council of Europe Landscape Convention with colleagues from other disciplines and organisations. Gerhard Ermischer, president of the Conference of INGOs at the Council of Europe (CINGO) and Sophie Hüglin, EAA’s Commissioner to the CINGO, were invited to participate among other discussants from landscape research and architecture. See Figure 18. At Nürtingen, it was possible to make contact with the leading European and international organisations of landscape architects, such as ECLAS and IFLA.

There are plans at the CINGO in Strasbourg to form a Commission explicitly dedicated to landscape and heritage. In this context, Gerhard Ermischer pointed out that this years’ Council of Europe Reykjavik Declaration explicitly mentions the Landscape Convention (on p. 20). Therefore, it can be expected that “the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment” (p. 21, point II) will need the formulation of a dedicated protocol for the European Court of Human Rights and that it is precisely there that a specialised CINGO Committee could be involved. This – among other points – is discussed at the CINGOs Autumn Session in Strasbourg 9-11 October 2023 where EAA will be represented remotely by Sophie Hüglin and Jesper de Raad.
